Liter Designated Engine: These are very similar to the inch designated
units, the most salient
difference being the head design and its valve train components, they use
thinner stem valves: seals,
keepers and rotators are also different. Do not confuse these engines with the
new PowerTech Series.
PowerTech Engine Information
PowerTech Engines: These constitute the new generation of John Deere engines.
They Substitute the 300,400 and 500 Series.
2.9L Power Tech engines have a certain degree of interchangeability with their
inch and liter designated counterparts: 3,179 and 3029. Check in this User's
Guide.
4.5L and 6.8L Power Tech engines have very little commonality with their inch
and liter designated counterparts. To help identify them look for their Engine
data plate info.
10.5L and 12.5L Power Tech engines are not included in this information.
